Essentia bottled water has a pH of 9.5, (sometimes, it has tested lower) which means it’s alkaline water. But at $2 a bottle, is Essentia worth the price? No, because with a water ionizer, you get better alkaline water – made the exact same way Essentia is made. Consequently, the two biggest differences are that the alkaline water you get from a water ionizer costs less than 3 cents per gallon, compared to $16 a gallon for Essentia. As a result, alkaline water from an ionizer has antioxidant potential, and Essentia water doesn’t.

Essentia vs. alkaline water from a water ionizer
Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) – Alkaline water from a water ionizer has a negative ORP, which means it has antioxidant potential. Essentia water doesn’t claim to have a negative ORP, so it may not have any antioxidant potential. The reason Essentia probably doesn’t claim a antioxidant potential for their water is that the antioxidant potential of alkaline water doesn’t keep in bottles. You should consider Essentia to be “stale” alkaline water for that reason.
pH – Essentia water is made using a water ionizer. That’s why it’s hard to find much difference when you compare Essentia water to alkaline water you make at home with a water ionizer. Both types of water are filtered, and then ionized to make them alkaline. One main difference is pH, you only get one choice – a pH of 9.5 with Essentia. A water ionizer allows you to set the pH of your water where you want to.
Bottom line: You can’t get antioxidant potential from Essentia
Purification – Both types of water are filtered of toxins. Essentia uses reverse osmosis and UV light filtration to purify their water. Reverse osmosis and UV light filtration are both available as options with a Life water ionizer. However, most people find that Life’s standard customized filtration system is all they need to purify their water. Life recommends the UV light system especially for well water users, because they are at higher risk for bacterial contamination than people on public water supplies.
Minerals – Because Essentia is filtered using reverse osmosis, they have to add minerals to it so it can be ionized. The problem with that is that Essentia adds sodium, which you probably don’t want in your water because you get enough in your diet. If you opt for reverse osmosis filtration with a Life Ionizer, we supply you with a coral calcium remineralizer. It gives you a healthy mix of 84 essential minerals.
Fact: Coral calcium is considered to be one of the best sources of calcium on Earth
Ionization – Essentia uses a water ionizer to ionize and alkalize their water, but they don’t understand the science of how a water ionizer works. Essentia claims their ionization process “removes acidic water clusters”. The problem is, there is no such thing as an acidic water cluster!
How water ionizers work
All water ionizers work the same way. They use electrically charged plates that are separated by an ion-exchange membrane to separate water into alkaline water and acidic water. A water separates the minerals compounds dissolved in the water. These mineral compounds are made of alkaline mineral ions like calcium and magnesium, combined with carbonate ions (carbonate is dissolved CO2) The alkaline minerals give alkaline water it’s alkaline pH, the carbonate makes the acidic water made by a water ionizer acidic.
Fact: There is no such thing as an “acidic water cluster”
Alkaline water ionizers vs. Essentia – Price
Essentia costs $2 for a 16 ounce bottle, there is 128 ounces in a gallon, so that makes the price of Essentia $16 per gallon (8 x 16 = 128). Ideally, you should drink about a half gallon (64 ounces) of water per day for proper hydration. This means that you would have to spend $8 per day on Essentia to drink enough Essentia water for good hydration. At that rate, you would spend $2920 per year!
For 30% less than that, you could purchase a Life M-7 water ionizer – outright. The M-7 is one of Life’s top-of-the-line models. This means, for the price of bottled Essentia – you could afford to own one of the best water ionizers made!
Life Water Ionizer vs. Essentia – pH level
A Life Ionizer M7 costs $1997. It can make alkaline water 60 times more alkaline than Essentia water! This is because the pH scale is logarithmic, each step up is an order of magnitude. Essentia has a pH of 9.5, the Life M7 can reach a pH of over 11. This means that:
From 9.5 – 10.5 pH = 10 times increase in pH
Add 10.5 – 11 pH = 50 times increase in pH (v.s a pH of 9.5)
Total increase = 60 times more alkaline than a pH of 9.5
Bottom Line: You can buy a top-of-the-line Life Ionizer for about the price you’d pay for a year’s supply of Essentia – and you’ll get better alkaline water!
Life vs Essentia – Antioxidant Potential
The Life M7 can make alkaline water a lot stronger that Essentia, and a Life water ionizer puts a lot of healthy antioxidant potential into the water. A Life M7 can put over -800 mV ORP antioxidant potential into every glass of alkaline water you drink.
Essentia doesn’t list the ORP of their water. Therefore, they don’t understand the process well enough to know that a water ionizer puts antioxidant potential into water, or the antioxidant potential of Essentia is so low they’d rather not talk about it.
Bottom Line: A Life Ionizer puts a lot of antioxidant power into your water, Essentia water may not have any antioxidant potential, because none is listed on Essentia’s website.
A Life Ionizer is a better investment than Essentia
Most noteworthy: If you are planning to add alkaline water to your daily diet, that means you will be drinking alkaline water for many years. A water ionizer is a wise choice because it will save you thousands of dollars over the cost of bottled water.
To drink enough alkaline water to fulfill your daily need for hydration, you would spend as much on Essentia as you would buying a water ionizer. This means that if you buy a water ionizer you break even in a year (or less). After that you’re saving money! A water ionizer is a smart choice for your health – and your wallet!
