San Diego begins adding Fluoride Acid to Water Supplies

San Diego: 9th worst water quality in the nation

The City of San Diego began adding fluoride in the form of fluorosilicic acid to some of its water treatment plants on Tuesday. San Diego has long resisted fluoridation out of concerns that it damages health.

Fluoridation was endorsed by the American Dental Association in 1950 as a way to fight tooth decay in children. However not all medical experts agree that fluoridation is a good idea. An article in the Imperial Beach Patch quotes Dr. Charles Heyd, former president of the AMA:  “I am appalled at the prospect of using water as a vehicle for drugs. Fluoride is a corrosive poison that will produce serious effects on a long-range basis. Any attempt to use water this way is deplorable.”

Not all Fluoride is Created Equal

Fluoride compounds occur naturally in mineral forms, such as calcium fluoride and sodium fluoride.  These natural fluoride minerals are safe to ingest, and are found in concentrated form in many popular health supplements.

The fluorosilicic acid that San Diego is adding to its water is not safe. Fluorosilicic acid is considered to have acute health effects and is extremely hazardous in concentrated form.

Fluoride Facts:

  • It is used as rat poison and an insecticide
  • Fluoridation has been linked to:

o   Cancer

o   Bone abnormalities

o   Genetic damage

o   Lowered IQ in children

  • Fluoride in one tube of toothpaste is enough to kill a child
  • Poison Control Centers handle thousands of fluoride poisonings annually
  • Malfunctioning municipal fluoridation systems have caused acute poisoning

Health Effects now Evident

The Fluoride Action Network (FAN) reports that 41 percent of adolescents aged 12 – 15 suffer from fluorosis (streaking or staining of the teeth), and that 24 studies show a link between moderate-to-high levels of fluoride exposure and lowered IQ in children.

African Americans have even more to fear from fluoride, according to Daniel Stockin with The Lillie Center: “African-Americans suffer disproportionate amounts of kidney disease, diabetes and disfiguring teeth damage from fluoride compared to whites”. Stockin is a public health expert with the Lillie Center, which seeks to educate the public about the dangers of fluoride.

Infants Face High Risk of Fluoride Poisoning

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states that fluoridation is good for public health. However, in response to recent research into the health effects of fluoride, the EPA recently announced that it is cutting the maximum allowable level of fluoride in water in half  to 0.7 ppm (parts per million). Along with the new EPA limits, the ADA and the CDC now recommend parents avoid using fluoridated water when mixing infant formula.

Home Water Filtration Systems Effective Against Fluoride

People who wish to avoid fluoridation have only one choice, whole home water filtration. Fluoride absorbs through skin readily, so even people who drink non-fluoridated water are still being exposed to fluoride when they bathe and are susceptible to the fumes generated when showering.

The Dolphin Whole Home Fluoride Filter™ is also effective against a wide range of heavy metals, and is designed to work in conjunction with the Dolphin VOC filter as part of the Dolphin Whole Home Filtration set. Together, the two filters protect you from VOC’s, heavy metals, chlorine, fluoride, hard water, and many more water-borne threats.

Toxic fluoride will soon be present in all of San Diego’s water. Install a Dolphin Whole Home Filtration system and protect yourself and your loved ones from fluoride’s damaging effects as well as all the other contaminants found in San Diego water.  Remember that a national survey by MSNBC showed San Diego ranked as the 9th worse water in the United States!  Click here to view this report

The contaminants or other substances removed or reduced by this water treatment device are not necessarily in your water. Click here to receive a free analysis of your local water quality report to find out if fluoride is in your water.
