Studies of the alkaline water benefits from the essential minerals in it

Blood Pressure

A study called Mineral water intake reduces blood pressure among subjects with low urinary magnesium and calcium levels showed that drinking mineral rich water increased study participants’ calcium and magnesium levels and reduced their blood pressure. The study had 70 participants, both male and female, aged between 45 and 60 years old. All study participants had high blood pressure. The study participants drank 1 liter of alkaline water per day. The study was conducted as a randomized, double blind clinical trial and lasted four weeks. Researchers reported that there was a significant decrease in blood pressure in all study participants at 2 and 4 weeks.

Bone Health

Research shows that alkaline water  benefits bone health even if you get get enough calcium in your diet! The study, called Alkaline mineral water lowers bone resorption even in calcium sufficiency: alkaline mineral water and bone metabolism compared the effect of drinking acidic water with calcium in it to alkaline water with calcium in it.  The study showed that drinking alkaline water increased urine pH. It also significantly reduced two markers of bone loss A. PTH and S-CTX. Moreover, the study showed that drinking acidic water with calcium in it did not raise urine pH or reduce markers of bone loss.

Digestion

A double blind clinical trial of alkaline water for digestive upset that was conducted in Japan. It revealed that 88% of the study participants that drank alkaline water found partial or full relief of their symptoms. Researchers  compared alkaline water to plain water. They found that plain water did not relieve digestive upset. The study noted that alkaline water was most effective when symptoms were mild. The study looked at 25 people and tracked their progress for 4 weeks. Consequently, this study showed that unlike medicines, the effects of alkaline water are gradual. Therefore, if you need immediate relief, take medicine.

Alkaline water shown to be better than plain water, acidic water

The bone resorption study compared alkaline water to acidic water. Accordingly, both waters had an equal amount of calcium in them. The alkaline water reduced markers of bone loss, the acidic water did not. This study is considered to be the strongest evidence of a health benefit from drinking alkaline water. A Japanese clinical trial on digestive upset compared alkaline water to plain water. Alkaline water was shown to relive mild cases of chronic diarrhea and constipation. Plain water had no effect on those symptoms. In conclusion, the evidence is clear, alkaline water has benefits for health that plain water doesn’t.
