Is Alkaline Water a Myth?

Many people have water that is alkaline  coming straight from their tap. They don’t even realize it! If you have hard water, chances are good that your tap water will have a pH higher than 7. If your tap water’s pH is higher than 7, you have alkaline water.

Why then do people think alkaline water is a myth? The reason is that many eager sales people trying to sell alkaline water and/or alkaline water systems have misrepresented what alkaline water’s benefits.

What Alkaline Water is … and what it is not

Alkaline water is water that has alkaline minerals like calcium and magnesium in it. These minerals are essential to your health. Alkaline water is not a drug (or medicine) it is not a miracle “cure” for anything.

Alkaline water supports good health by providing two important things: hydration and minerals. The reason many people experience improvements in their health from drinking it is because mineral deficiencies and dehydration have become public health epidemics.

The fact about alkaline ionized water and health is this: If you give the body adequate mineral nutrition and hydrate it properly, it will heal itself of any illness that stems from mineral deficiencies and dehydration. Some health issues that can be caused or made worse by dehydration and mineral deficiencies include:

• High blood pressure
• Obesity
• High blood sugar
• High Cholesterol levels
• Kidney stones

If my water is already alkaline, why do I need a machine?

As stated in the beginning of this article, if you have hard water, it probably has an alkaline pH. Why then, would you need a water ionizer machine? Because water ionizers do two things that improve the purity and quality of your water:

• Purification – The machine’s filters protect you from toxins like chlorine
• Quality – Water ionizers increase alkalinity – the ability of the water to counteract acidity

Even if your tap water is alkaline, it could be unhealthy to drink it if it has chlorine in it. Alkalinity in water makes the toxic effects of chlorine worse. Alkaline water machines remove harmful chlorine and other toxins.

Water ionizers raise the pH of water, which allows that water to counteract acids. The ionization process used by water ionizers also puts a slight negative electrostatic charge in the water. That charge – called Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) – gives alkaline ionized water an antioxidant benefit that helps neutralize free radicals. The increased alkalinity and age-fighting antioxidant ORP potential put into the water by a water ionizer measurably improves the benefit you get from drinking alkaline ionized water. Yes … there is a difference!
