mood, and worst of all makes it harder for the heart to pump blood. It makes it harder because dehydration raises the viscosity of your blood. Chronic dehydration, a condition where you remain in a dehydrated state over a long period of time, is associated with the development of disease, including heart attacks and strokes. Because of all these dangers, rehydration (which lowers your blood viscosity) is a critical health protective measure. A recent study called: Effect of electrolyzed high-pH alkaline water on blood viscosity in healthy adults compared plain water to alkaline water to see either type of water was better for rehydration. Researchers found something astonishing: Alkaline water rehydrates nearly twice as fast as plain water!

High blood viscosity linked to increased risk of heart attack

Viscosity measures the thickness and stickiness of your blood. The higher the viscosity, the thicker and stickier your blood is, and the harder your heart has to work to pump it. The viscosity of your blood is affected by whether your heart is actively squeezing (systolic pressure) or at rest (diastolic pressure). The higher your blood’s viscosity, the higher your chances of having a heart attack or stroke.

The largest-ever study on the effect of blood viscosity on the heart, the Edinburgh Artery Study, showed that the 20% of the people in the study with the highest blood viscosity had 55% of the heart attacks experienced by study participants. There were 1,592 middle-aged men in the study, who were followed for five years. Only 4% of the people with the lowest blood viscosity experienced any heart or stroke-related effects. In fact, the relationship between high blood viscosity and heart attacks is stronger than the relationship between smoking and heart attacks!

You may be dehydrated, right now, and not even know it

ife-ionizer-reviews-hydrationMany people think that if they drink water or some other beverage when they feel thirsty, that they won’t become dehydrated. That’s true for younger people, but not necessarily the case for people over 50. Studies have shown that people over 50 may mistake the thirst impulse for hunger: They eat when what they really need is a drink of water. Research suggests the cause of this mistaken hunger is chronic dehydration: The body is already dehydrated, and making things worse by craving food!

Many new alkaline water drinkers report developing a craving for alkaline water that passes in a week or two. One explanation for this craving is that drinking alkaline water when you’re chronically dehydrated may reset the thirst impulse: You simply crave alkaline water until your body’s store of water is properly replenished. Health experts suggest that this may be why some people new to alkaline water also lose weight: They stop overeating because their body now correctly recognizes when it’s thirsty vs. being hungry.

Alkaline water: 87.50% reduced blood viscosity vs. plain water

In the study, Effect of electrolyzed high-pH alkaline water on blood viscosity in healthy adults researchers examined the effects of alkaline water vs. plain water on rehydration after a bout of exercise-induced  2% dehydration on 100 test subjects (50 male, 50 female).  What they found was that during the 2 hour rehydration period, the people who drank alkaline water had 87.50% reduced blood viscosity compared to plain water drinkers. This meant that the alkaline water drinkers had restored their hydration levels. The plain water drinkers didn’t restore their hydration levels to normal, even after the full two hours. In fact, the alkaline water drinkers had actually restored their hydration levels to normal within one hour after beginning rehydration.

Alkaline water hydration: The best choice for everyone

Whether you’re younger, older, or in between, alkaline water is the best choice for hydration. It has been shown in multiple studies to hydrate faster and more thoroughly than plain water. Alkaline water hydration makes a noticeable difference even in extreme sports like UFC championship fighting: Just ask Joe “Hybrid” Duarte or James Lee, both of whom are champion, world-class Mixed Martial Arts fighters who own and swear by Life Ionizers for hydrating and alkalizing their bodies to peak performance. If you are one of the 3 out of 4 people who the Centers for Disease control estimates are chronically dehydrated, rehydrating with alkaline water by Life may give you:

    • More energy
    • Healthier looking skin
    • Healthy weight loss
  • Protection from heart attacks and strokes
