Blood pH

Your blood pH is maintained by your body in a narrow range of 7.35 – 7.45. If blood pH drops too low, the body has four ways to fix it:

1. Breath – CO₂ causes blood pH to drop. Your body responds by breathing deeper and faster

3. Bone – The body steals calcium from the bones to neutralize acidity

Kidney pH

The pH in the kidneys is affected by food and water, as well as metabolic processes in the body. Acidic foods and beverages cause the kidneys to have a low pH because the body is discharging excess acid in the urine. The lower the urine pH, the harder the kidneys have to work. The acidic load that food and drink puts on your kidneys is called Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) for that reason.

Use this handy guide when choosing what level of alkaline water to drink

Nearly all alkaline water ionizers make four levels of alkaline water. Each of these levels has a use for maintaining a healthy body pH balance. The key to maintaining a healthy body pH balance is knowing what level of water to drink, and when to drink it.

Monitor your urine pH balance

You monitor your urine using pH test strips. The pH of your urine will vary depending on the time of day, and what time you ate last.

Check your urine  pH when you first get up, an hour before and after each meal, and before you go to bed. Keep track of the daily average pH of the readings you get of your urine.

Level one to start

Start drinking alkaline water at level one because your body needs to detoxify. Some new alkaline water drinkers report mild flu-like symptoms for up to a week as their body detoxifies.

Tip: Drink level one alkaline water for at least two weeks before going to a higher pH level alkaline water.

Daily pH balance goals

Your goal for urine pH is to average a 6.5 – 7.5 pH and for saliva you want an average of 7 – 7.5 pH. A healthy body will maintain these averages when you consume alkaline water in a range of 8.0 – 9.5 ph. Most water ionizers will produce that water at setting 2 or 3.
