Anti-Aging Vitamin Niagen shows Promise in latest Study

A breakthrough study performed in Switzerland shows that a vitamin sold under the brand name Niagen has

Niagen has shown promise to halt or even reverse some signs of aging in studies

the potential to reverse aging at the cellular level in our internal organs. The vitamin,   nicotinamide riboside, is a derivative of Vitamin B3 (Niacin). Previous studies report that Niagen has been effective at boosting metabolism and shows promise as an alternative treatment for a number of degenerative diseases.

How aging affects the regenerative capacity of your organs

Under normal conditions, stem cells in your organs react to signals from your body to regenerate damaged cells in your organs. What was not known until this recently released study is that those stem cells depend heavily on their mitochondria – the part of the cell that makes energy – for them to function properly.  What happens as we age is that those stem cell’s mitochondria gradually lose their ability to produce energy. The stem cells simply become too tired to produce the energy that they need to regenerate organ cells. As a result, your organs function gradually declines and you age. According to researcher Hongbo Zhang: “We demonstrated that fatigue in stem cells was one of the main causes of poor regeneration or even degeneration in certain tissues or organs,” Reversing stem cell fatigue may very well reverse the aging process in organs and other tissues

Niagen + Mitochondria = Energy!

Nicotinamide riboside targets the molecules that help the mitochondria function normally. Since the mitochondria of the cells are the cells energy plant, the result is an increased metabolism and a restoration of the stem cell activity that is needed to regenerate organ tissue. Other studies performed on nicotinamide riboside reveal that it has a similar effect on muscles, the brain and skin. Those studies showed that aged mice that received nicotinamide riboside regenerated muscle tissue better than mice that didn’t get it, and they lived longer. All studies done so far have revealed no side effects, even at high doses! The only precaution that researchers noted is that nicotinamide riboside boosts mitochondrial activity in all cells, potentially including pathological ones, such as tumor cells. This means that people currently with tumors, or at risk of developing tumors, should probably wait for further research before trying nicotinamide riboside.

Alkaline Water and Niagen both show potential for anti-aging

The breakthrough study on Niagen was originally reported on Ray Kurzweil’s blog, who has previously reported that ionized alkaline water has also shown potential as an anti-aging treatment. In fact, Dr. Terry Grossman, who works with Ray Kurzweil on anti-aging, recommends drinking alkaline water as a prerequisite to any anti-aging program. According to Dr. Grossman: “alkaline water encourages “friendly” anaerobic microflora in the human

intestinal tract, and discourages “unfriendly” aerobic organisms.” This is important because for your body to be able to use Niagen, it must be able to properly absorb it. He points out that the friendly anaerobic microflora flourish in an intestinal environment with an antioxidant ORP level of between -300 and -400 Mv millivolts. The negative electrical charge supplied by the ionized alkaline water made by an ionizer has that potential. On a personal note, I’ve watched the research on Niagen with great interest for a couple of years. This most recent research has convinced me to give Niagen a try. Keep an eye on this blog for updates!
